The
day began early. Kris and I had set our
alarms for 6:30, but Barbara was up before 6:00. Our goal was to leave the house by 8:00 AM,
and we were ready. It was a beautiful
sunny morning as we began to explore our Capitol Hill neighborhood. It was about a six-block walk to our breakfast
destination---six blocks of colorful row houses with beautiful gardens, brick
sidewalks and neighborhood parks. We
took lots of pictures! Finally, we
spotted the Bread and Chocolate restaurant at the corner
of 7th St. SE Pennsylvania Ave. Capitol Building

was enjoyable. Kris and I shared a
delicious Mediterranean Omelette, accompanied by the house-baked bread, but
Barbara was somewhat disappointed in her Bircher Muesli (it was not like Denny
Buell’s). The pastry case was a visual
delight; however, we chose not to partake---we took pictures instead.
Our first stop after breakfast was the Eastern Market
Metro station, which just happened to be located right across the street from
Bread and Chocolate. We played with the
machines and figured out how to purchase our $10.00 fare cards. Then, fare cards in hand, we hopped on a blue
line train to the Federal Triangle station---our destination, the DC Visitor
Center located in the Ronald
Reagan Building 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW . We marveled at the size of the buildings in
the Federal Triangle, took some pictures of the sculpture, picked up a bit of
information at the visitor center, and then headed down the street to connect
with our DC IT ALL TOUR near the Old Post Office building located at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW . We connected with our tour people and took a
few minutes to explore the interior of the Old Post Office building before
boarding the bus for the day. And what a
day it was! I was was surprised at the
security to get into some of these buildings.
Even my pedometer set off the alarms.
We had lunch at the Pentagon Mall Food Court
