Happy July 4th!!
It was raining a lot last night. Not much of a view out my window this morning
We met in front of the hotel at 8:40 pm after a very nice breakfast. We walked down to the Stechelburg cable car stop to go down to the bus. It was a large gondola/cable car, so we all fit in, even with all of our luggage.
Goodbye to Murren. What a beautiful spot.
Rudy was there waiting for us. We were on the road by 9 am.
Our first stop was a WC stop in Gruyere. I bought some cheese. We had a group photo in front of the cows.
Nathan and Josephine are both sitting on cows, so they look taller.
Laurel said that we could buy sandwiches because lunch might be late. She did not say that we would not have a lunch stop. I didn't buy anything.
Our 4th of July parade.
We got to Chamonix about 1 pm. We could not check in until 4 pm. After a WC stop we went on an orientation walk. I was getting grumpy because I was hungry and hot. After the walk, we went directly to a nearby restaurant that served sandwiches. We both had paninis from 1995.
I had the Walker
We tried to find a place in the shade to eat our sandwiches.
Finally just sat on the ground in the shade.
We went back to the hotel for a while, waiting to be able to check in.
This is an interesting hotel with a lot of stuff for kids of all ages. Bowling alley, games, and toys.
Swings in the lobby by the reception desk.
I was able to check in early, so we dumped our stuff in there while we went out to run an errand. We were unsuccessful. We were trying to add a multi-ride pass for our cable car lift tomorrow.
It was too hot to do much of anything.

A Hugo, of course
Finally, Nathan could check in. I was in 110, and Nathan was in room 201.
Carpeting and red walls.
Very nice room with an electric kettle. So I am happy. No AC, but they do have a fan.
It was starting to cool down a little, so we went to sit on the terrace. We invited others to join us for a card game. Laurel and Heidi joined us. Later, when we had just finished playing, Beth and Donn joined us.
We talked about next day's plans until we were ready for dinner. About 8 pm, we all walked to dinner. Heidi didn't join us. We went to le Boccalatte. We shared a bottle of wine. I had steak frites. Way too much food for me, but it was delicious.
Nathan had a vegetarian lasagna. We both wished that we had shared.
Beth
Because we had 5 people, they could only fit us inside. It was hot.
When we came out we were thrilled with the view.
Today was a nice recovery day, even though it was hot.

Glad you made it to France. Too bad about the heat.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous end of day shots with the waxing moon over the sunlit snow covered peaks!
ReplyDeleteMore great views. So what was the Walker panini worthy of the name (:>)?
ReplyDeleteYou sure have some great photos. I think you will need a rest when you get home!
