Sunrise from the window.
Breakfast was at 7 am but there was another huge tour group coming through so there was a long line and not much seating. There were too many people so I could not take any pictures of the breakfast. The people who had luggage that needed to go back to the bus needed to bring them down by 7:20 am.
We met at 8 am to walk to the bus stop.
This is the set up for taking luggage to the bus.
Leaving Cesky Krumlov.
Our bus.
Our first rest stop
Petr's good luck buddy.
We arrived into Melk
Melk Benedictine Abbey complex
Jana with Anna, who was our guide into the Melk Abbey.
Once we went in we were no longer allowed to take pictures.
When we left we went down these spiral stairs
The picture doesn't do justice. Since this was outside we were allowed to take pictures again.
We went into Melk for some sit-down time.
We had some coffee.
I tried to get some height so you could see that the yellow benches spells Melk.
We got back on the bus for a short ride to the Danube.
We got on this boat to take a 1 1/2 hour cruise along the Danube.
We started outside but it wasn't long before we decided to move inside where it was cooler and out of the sun, plus we could order lunch. It was 1:30 pm and I was hungry.
Gruner Veltliner wine. It is a local specialty. It was very good.
Sharon had the Burrata salad
Jeanne and Kris had the wienerschnitzel (pork).
I just had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Not very photo worthy.
Some scenes along the Blue Danube that did not look very blue. We saw a lot of evidence of the flooding. I am glad that we were able to do the cruise. It had been questionable.
We got off at Krems. Petr met us there with the bus.
We drove the rest of the way to Vienna to the Hotel Das Tigra. We all checked in.
Our room.
This time we are in adjoining rooms with Sharon and Kris.
We went downstairs at 6 pm for our orientation walk with Jana.
St Stephen's cathedral
Once Jana had helped us to get oriented she left us. The question was - where to go for dinner. We wanted someplace close.
Ann and Cindy joined us. We sat out in the back garden. What a pleasant evening. There were quite a few others from our tour who ended out at this same cafe.
Jeanne got the salad.
I got the original wienerschnitzel (veal) and shared it with Jeanne. It was very good.
After dinner someone from the hotel came and unlocked the connecting doors. That was nice. We could chat a bit.

Nice photos of the Abbey and along the Danube. Glad the flooding subsided enough that you could do the cruise.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the group was able to do the cruise for a little change up. I have seen some pictures of the flooding that happened just recently. I'm so glad you missed it. The water still looks pretty high. Interesting roof design on the top of St. Stephen's cathedral. Did anyone try some of those gorgeous sweets in the case? The Mohn-Himbeer tarte looked good. I guess that was poppy seed and curd cake with a raspberry glaze. I like the mural piece in the restaurant. Lots of detail. I appreciate the pictures keeping us informed of your travels.
ReplyDeleteCool photos. I'm glad the flooding has subsided a bit. I never understand places that don't allow photos.
