Sunday, Modern Art and Le Marais

Most of today was spent in our neighborhood, the Marais. We started at the Cafe Beaubourg for a delicious breakfast.

I liked the bowl of scrambled eggs (though not everyone did).

Richard met us at the cafe and took us over to the Bastille area where we started our neighborhood walking tour. Our first stop was a famous open area market.

This is Richard, our guide. He was very knowledgeable and charming.

So much to choose from: flowers, foods of all types, spices, clothing, art, kitchenware ...

and pig's heads!

We wander around the neighborhood. We stopped at a little cafe for coffee and macarons. The Place des Vosges was very pretty. We listened to some street music.

When we were through with the tour we stopped for lunch at a falafel place. It was across the street from the one we were going to go to but there was no line and Richard recommended it. Our falafel sandwiches were very good.

Then back to the Pompidou. Right out front of it is the Stravinsky fountain. It is full of movable structures. Unfortunately the water was not turned on. But the structures were fun.

The Pompidou certainly is an interesting building.

The inside of the Pompidou.

We went to the top of the Pompidou first and took a look around. It was a nice view in all directions.

So much great art. Here is a Kandinsky.

After the Pompidou we came back to the apartment to refresh a little. Put our feet up. Then Sharon, Kris and I went out to meet a childhood friend - Peter Fletcher.

We had a great time though the food was less than stellar. Peter said that it had been his favorite restaurant but not any more. He drove us back to a good metro stop. We went through areas we are planning to see on a different day so we had a little preview. That was nice.

Home and to bed - an early night.
