Nathan and I signed up for a Rick Steves My Way Alpine Tour. What "My Way" means is that Rick Steves schedules the hotels and gets us from hotel to hotel. They will have a full-time concierge or trip manager, Laurel, who will be with us the whole time to help us. But we are on our own during each day. Breakfast is included at each hotel. There are 28 people in our group.
We leave Portland on Monday, June 23rd, at 10 am, and we arrive in Salzburg, Austria, at 1:20 pm on June 24th. We fly out of Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, July 7th, to come home. We will explore the Alps in 5 countries: Salzburg, Austria; Castelrotto, Italy (Dolomites); Fussen, Germany; Murren, Switzerland; and Chamonix, France. We will have to learn some Italian, German, and French. We will use Euros and Swiss Francs. The flights were scheduled through Lufthansa, but we are flying with several different airlines: United, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Edelweiss Air, and Air Canada.
I am excited, but also a little nervous. This is a different kind of AWEsome trip. Not much Art, except for the nature kind; but a lot of Walking; and I am sure that we will find plenty to Eat!!
Friday evening, I had a nice bon voyage happy hour with Sharon & Kris. We even had a delicious Austrian Grüner Veltliner to drink. This was the white wine that Jeanne, Sharon, Kris, and I had a lot of on our last Rick Steves trip (Berlin, Prague, & Vienna).

Looking forward to your blog
ReplyDeleteHope your flight went well. (Since it's 10:30 AM CDT I'm assuming you are now in Salzburg). Looking forward to your first post about your arrival and what explorations you did on your first partial day there.
