Nathan and I left the house at 7:30 am to get to the airport. George drove Nathan's car home.
We had a few minor glitches with checking in. I was trying to get TSApre✓ since I have paid for global entry. Plus I was trying to get my phone number in there for notifications instead of George's phone. Success!!
Portland Airport
We got through security in plenty of time. The flight was delayed but only about 20 minutes and they made up some of that time flying to San Francisco.
At SFO we had to hike from C terminal to G for the international flights. It was quite a walk. But we had plenty of time.
I don't know what the deal was with the parrots, but they were everywhere. I only took a few pictures of them. (Nathan said that this was in reference to the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill)
Once we got to the G terminal we decided to get some lunch. We picked Joe and the Juice. They had sandwiches. I picked the tunacado panini. It was OK, but kind of bland.

Nathan was walking and then I heard my name being paged. Argh!! I couldn't hear what I should do. I had to wait for Nathan to get back. What we found out is that we were both being paged. Actually, they were paging everyone on the flight to come show our passports. Nothing was wrong.
Note the price on this duty-free bottle of Scotch!!!! $24,600.00 each!!!
Nathan's bag was too heavy, so he had to check his bag through to Salzburg. So I checked mine as well.
I had a little chance to work on my blog.
The flight from SFO was delayed as well. The new time was 2:55 pm. We boarded and took off. What a long flight. Our screens did not work well for movies. Very frustrating. I did watch Arsenic and Old Lace and Sleepless in Seattle. I tried to watch Girl Trip, but I lost interest in it. We had 2 meals. We had ordered ahead. Apparently I had asked for Indian. At least that is what I got.
My dinner.
Nathan's dinner
Nathan's breakfast (I think that it was better than mine)
My breakfast (I think that it was another Indian dinner)
10 hours and 45 minutes later, and a lot of free not so good alcohol we arrived in Frankfurt. The one good drink I had was my cognac. I think that they got it from first class. Neither of us got any sleep.
We arrived in Frankfurt half an hour early. That gave us time to go in circles and get thoroughly lost. Well, that was what it felt like. We did keep following the signs. We went from Z25 to B8. This was another huge airport. One odd part was going down in a small elevator, then a long hallway, and then going back up another small elevator. I just can't believe that that was what we were meant to do. Oh well. We made it.
When it was time for us to board the plane to Salzburg (It was also 15 minutes delayed), we had to go downstairs to get into a bus which drove us out to the back 40 to find our plane.

Coming into Salzburg.
Hanger 7, is a unique building that houses the historical Flying Bulls aircraft fleet and a collection of Formula 1 race cars. I took this picture for Sharon & Kris because we went there on our last trip.
Salzburg airport.
We found a taxi out front. The driver got us pretty close to the hotel. He wasn't allowed to park in front of the hotel. It was about a 25-minute ride.
My room. Nathan is next door.
The view from my window.
I did not bring my electric kettle on this trip because on the last trip I was on, every hotel had an electric kettle. But this hotel does not have one, and breakfast doesn't open until 7 am. Argh!! This is not a hardship for some folks, but it is to me. I am sure that I will survive. ;-)
We had a chance to shower and unpack. Then we met downstairs in the lobby to try to come up with a plan.
They did have a "sweet hour" from 2 - 3 pm. It was complimentary. The wine was extra.
So we are here and barely awake. We decided to do some rambling around to stay awake. I will start a separate blog entry for that.

Looks like things are going pretty well so far. Too bad about no coffee till 7am.
ReplyDeleteI gather you decided to pass on the duty free scotch lol
ReplyDeletelovely. I think there were green parrots where Grandma Walker lived in FL. Escaped captivity and living free and wild...
ReplyDeleteBrings back great memories! Wish we'd gone into that cathedral when we were there.
