A note from Joyce

We are recovering from a long walk around the heart of the town.  The architectural beauty here is staggering, especially the decoration on the duomo (cathedral) and all the statuary in the plaza nearby.  It is occurring to me that just taking pictures of all of this is pointless.
So I am rethinking it.  But before I move on with this thought I will discuss Michaelangelo's David . This has been parodied, copied and overused on refrigerator magnets. One big yawn, right? But we saw a large replica of it in the plaza and our tour guide, Martin, explained the reason that it was put there..remember that David killed the giant.  Well, this statue was erected after the murderous Medicinci's were chased out of town...in effect killing the giant.  Now the statue is interesting to me and I did take a picture.

So, what is picture worthy? I took a picture (not included) of a well dressed middle aged man wearing chartreuse socks, a meter maid writing a ticket and a Chinese restaurant sign written in Italian (Cinese). If you want to see the other Florence, look it up in a book. Joyce

  2. As a middle-aged man who wears a chartreuse jacket, I'm wondering why chartreuse socks are picture-worthy :-) It makes it less likely that you'll get run over by a gondola.
