Thursday - off to Rome

We had an early start to get on the bus to drive to Rome.  We had a restroom stop and then we stopped to do a wine tasting and lunch in Umbria at a family run winery, Le Velette.  Gorgeous place up on the hill.  Unfortunately it was sprinkling so we did not spend much time outside.  My picture is a little foggy.  It is the view from the winery.
We went down into the cellars  A very long tunnel with many niches where some wine is stored.  The tunnels are not used in the wine making process.
After our tour we went to the dining room ... What a spread.  Allesandro explained which foods should go with which wines.  Then we all dove in.  We had 2 white wines, 1 red and then a dessert wine.  They kept bringing out food.

The dessert wine.

After lunch we piled into the bus for another 2 hours to get to our hotel in Rome.  This is a more modern building but it is right near the Colosseum and other ancient stuff.  After having about an hour to settle in, we met to get on the bus to start a city tour.

  1. Was that part of the Rick Steve's group in the back of the table?
From some of the pictures it would seem that it was a little colder and wetter than planned.

  2. I hadn't realized how much the Colosseum was patched together with bricks and concrete. Maybe it's time to tear it down and rebuild :-)
