Because of all the activity at the Palace yesterday they had to shuffle things around. Today our tour did not start until noon so people slept in. Jeanne and I did not see anyone of our group when we went down for breakfast. We went down again when Sharon and Kris were ready for breakfast. We just had coffee then. Laundry day. We went to El Corte Ingles, which was right next door. Very popular department store around here. This one was an outlet one with a lot of sale prices. Jeanne and I walked around the block looking for souvenir shops. We did not find much.
At noon we met in the lobby and then walked to the metro to take the train to the Reina Sofia where we got to see Picasso's Guernica.

We were not allowed to take any pictures so this is downloaded from the website. Federico is very good about explaining things. We saw a few others of Picasso's works but did not spend a lot of time here.
a Calder in the garden
Then we took the metro to the Royal Palace
a street musician playing the glasses. He was very good. We were scurrying past so I could not do a recording.
This is a famous sculpture in the Puerto del Sol, square near us. Once we got to the palace we had a quick sit-down break with lunch. Not very relaxed but we did all choose stuff to eat. We had 1/2 hour for rest room and lunch.
Royal Palace
This area we could take pictures and then no more.
Palace mostly built by Carlos III. Federico pretended that he was Carlos the III. He is very good. The tour was over at 4:15 pm and then we were all on our own.
We walked back to the hotel and rested a bit. We had bought tickets for a flamenco show. Actually we had bought the tickets for Thursday night the 10:30 pm show but we wanted to change so Federico helped us the flip things around. We had dinner at Casa Patas before the show. What a fabulous meal.
tortilla
crustos (croquettes)
artichoke hearts
side salad
grilled asparagus (we were almost done before we remembered to take a picture)
We were tired of the meats, so tonight was mostly vegetarian with a very nice bottle of white wine.
Then we moved into another room for the show
a very tiny stage. Everything was in black and most of the players wore black, except for the 2 main women dancers
a door
sunset on our walk home
a window

The flamenco show was AMAZING! Struck all of us that the dancing had elements of "Riverdance", Indian dancing, & ballet.
ReplyDeleteGreat captions: A door, a sunset, a window. I am glad that you explained the asparagus one. Because sometimes there are only 2. Ask Sharon about the 2 meatballs I asked for. I can certainly see in my mind anyway, the similarities between Riverdance dancing and the flamenco dance. Lots of footwork. To the beat of the music.
ReplyDeleteI think I would have really enjoyed the dancing!
